A Weekend in Kyiv
Nastia lives in Poltava. Last weekend she visited her cousin Oleh in Kyiv. On Saturday morning they walked to Sofiivska Square and looked at the old cathedral with its golden domes. Then they took the funicular — a small train on a steep hill. It goes up and down between the river and the Old Town. The ride is short, but the view of the city from the top is wonderful.
In the afternoon they walked along the Dnipro. The river is very wide — much wider than the river in Poltava. They ate ice cream and watched the boats.
In the evening Oleh took Nastia to a small cafe near his flat. They ordered varenyky with potato and a big salad. "Next time we are going to walk around Podil," said Oleh. "There are many interesting street cafes there." Nastia can't wait to come back.
